Established in 1973, the Danish National Abortion Registry contains information on legally induced abortions carried out after 1 October 1973. Among the information in the register are data on legal authority, complications, and the nature of the intervention, including whether it is a surgical or medical abortion. In addition, the register contains certain information about the woman.
The purpose of the register is to collect information for use in preparing the Danish Health Authority's ongoing statistics on medical aspects of abortion procedures and women's abortion patterns. The statistics are used in local planning.
