Established in 2012, the W5 Digital Insights (W5di) database is one of the largest health information networks in the US. The database has information on >220 million patients from all 50 US states. The data, which are updated multiple times a day and available within 48 hours of collection, come from a variety of sources including medical claims, pharmacy claims, lab orders, lab results, electronic remittance advice, and e-prescriptions.

- When exporting data you can now see 8 additional fields: Region, DB Type, Dx Data, Dx Coded, Procedure Data, Procedure Code, Drug Data, Drug Coding System;
- Page numbers are now on the top and bottom of the RESULTS page;
- Several behind-the-scenes fixes to enhance your search experience.
Our 276th profile is the HealthCore Integrated Research Environment (HIRE) – Oncology (USA) database, which started in 2014 with the launch of the Cancer Care Quality Program (CCQP) by Anthem. Data from the CCQP were integrated with the HealthCore Integrated Research Environment (HIRE), and is referred to as the HIRE-Oncology data.
Our 275th profile is the United States Wound Registry (USWR). USWR is a longitudinal, observational dataset of chronic wounds and ulcers treated at participating hospital-based outpatient wound centers. This unique dataset includes all wound and ulcer types, including those related to skin disorders such as scleroderma. Interventions captured in USWR include advanced dressings, compression bandaging, off-loading, cellular and/or tissue based therapies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, debridement, and antibiotics.
Established in 1997, the North American Antiepileptic Drug (AED) Pregnancy Registry is the first hospital-based registry established for pregnant women with the objective of obtaining and publishing information on the frequency of major congenital malformations among infants whose mothers had taken one or more AEDs to prevent seizures or to treat any other medical condition.

- Mini-Sentinel Distributed Database (MSDD);
- Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results – Medicare Health Outcomes Survey (SEER-MHOS)
The MSDD was established in 2010 and uses pre-existing electronic healthcare data from multiple sources to explore a variety of approaches to improve the FDA’s ability to quickly identify and assess safety issues.
Dr. Freedman is the Clinical and Translational Epidemiology Branch Chief of the Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program, part of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences at the National Cancer Institute of NIH. We are happy to have him on our Board and look forward to his valuable input as we start profiling genetic databases and biobanks this year.
